Why Disgust Holds Us Back

When my client first came to me, she was feeling something deeper than just frustration—she was disgusted.
Disgusted with the disrespect she’d experienced in her professional life.
Disgusted by the emotional baggage that had built up over the years.
And most of all, disgusted by how much she had internalized these heavy feelings—holding onto them like armor.

Through our emotional healing sessions, she began to realize that this deep, visceral disgust wasn’t just about the people who had wronged her. It was about the accumulated emotional garbage stored in her body. Disgust with the systems that had failed her. Disgust with the lack of support, both personal and professional. It had all hardened into a toxic energy, making it almost impossible for her to move forward.

How Somatic Breathing Helped Release Years of Pain

As we explored her story, a painful truth surfaced: these feelings weren't just tied to recent events.
They stretched all the way back to childhood—years of feeling unseen, unheard, and unsupported. Over time, this emotional pain had settled into her body like a permanent undercurrent of repulsion, making her want to check out of life rather than fully engage with it.

Her breakthrough moment came through somatic breathing, a body-centered technique we use to clear emotional energy.
Breath by breath, she faced the truth: the disgust wasn’t protecting her anymore.
It had become a prison.

With each conscious breath, she allowed herself to release what no longer served her—the disrespect, the self-doubt, the old emotional wounds. As she did, something remarkable happened:
She created new space inside herself. A space for healing, clarity, and possibility.

Moving Forward with Self-Compassion and Strength

Her journey isn’t over, but she’s no longer shackled by disgust.
She’s learning to walk through the world with more grace, less anger, and a whole lot more self-compassion.

And while she may still encounter moments that trigger those old feelings, she now has tools to release emotional blocks—instead of carrying them forward.
